Classic Deviled Eggs

These Classic Deviled Eggs are simple, sharp, and timeless. Grey Poupon Dijon mustard adds a clean tang without overpowering the eggs, the mayo makes them incredibly creamy, while Tabasco brings subtle heat. This is a reliable, no-frills deviled egg recipe that works for holidays, potlucks, and casual family gatherings.

I love deviled eggs because you can customize them however you want – like these crab-stuffed deviled eggs or my bacon deviled eggs.

While this recipe follows our specific palette, feel free to play with the flavors! I recommend starting off lighter with the Dijon, mayonnaise, and Tabasco, then taste the filling and adjust as needed.

Kid-Friendly Steps
Cooking: Have kids help place the eggs into the egg cooker and gently set the lid on top. This gives them a safe way to participate at the start of the recipe. We love this kids kitchen stool so they can help in the kitchen!
Assembling: Let kids help mash the yolks or sprinkle the paprika on top of the finished eggs using small ceramic spice bowls to easily pinch the paprika and sprinkle. These small ceramic spice bowls are great for little hands!

Description

This recipe uses a short list of pantry staples to deliver classic deviled egg flavor. Grey Poupon Dijon mustard provides clean tang and structure, while Tabasco adds subtle heat and paprika finishes with color and warmth.

Important Tools for This Recipe:

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large eggs
  • 12 teaspoons Grey Poupon Dijon mustard, depending on preference
  • 34 tablespoons mayonnaise, depending on preference
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Tabasco, to taste
  • Paprika, for topping

Instructions

Hard-Boil Eggs (Egg Cooker)

  1. Fill the egg cooker measuring cup to the “hard-boiled” line and pour water into the cooker base. Place boiling tray over the heating plate.
  2. Pierce the bottom of the egg (the larger, rounder end) with the pin from the bottom of the measuring cup.
  3. With pierced side facing up, place eggs on the tray, cover, and start the cooker.
  4. Cook until the alert sounds (about 7–9 minutes).
  5. Transfer eggs immediately to an ice bath using a small glass mixing bowl (a bowl filled with water and lots of ice) and let cool completely before peeling. For this step, I like to use these kitchen tongs.

Deviled Eggs

  1. Using a paring knife, slice eggs lengthwise and remove yolks into a bowl.
  2. Mash yolks with the back of a fork until smooth.
  3. Add Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, salt, black pepper, and a few dashes of Tabasco.
  4. Mix until creamy and well combined; taste and adjust seasoning.
  5. Spoon or pipe filling back into egg whites.
  6. Lightly sprinkle with paprika just before serving.

Notes

  • For a neat, professional finish, transfer the yolk mixture to a piping bag fitted with a star tip before filling the egg whites.
  • If you don’t have a piping bag, spoon the yolk mixture into a zip lock bag. To make this easier, place the open bag inside a small glass and fold the edges over the rim. This holds the bag open while you fill it. Then, cut open one corner of the zip lock and squeeze the mixture into the egg whites.
  • Start with a small amount of Tabasco (2-3 dashes); it should enhance, not dominate.
  • Classic deviled eggs can be made up to 24 hours ahead and stored covered in the refrigerator.
